The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Unveil a Fresh Divinity, Labeling it Their Largest RPG Yet

The anticipation surrounding the recent awards show reached a fever pitch, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious photo of a desert monolith. The mystery is finally answered. Larian Studios is developing a brand-new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was debuted with a bold trailer packed with intense imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the literal opening of infernal gates.

Not the Expected Sequel

For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio warned that a direct sequel to its venerated RPGs is not being worked on now.

Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This choice of words implies that the team might be building a more action-oriented experience rather than another turn-based title. Currently, it remains theory, as only a teaser video is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it pioneered the recent resurgence of deep computer role-playing games. These games are defined by rich lore, branching plots, and flexible progression—elements that subsequently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is traditional swords and sorcery, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust bestowed upon the player.

Where many modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is brimming with niche playthroughs only possible if you're playing as a distinct build with a specific history of choices.

The series is also notoriously permissive, letting players to improvise in narrative and gameplay. Virtually all objectives can be completed in multiple ways, often in surprising fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you recalled something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by teleporting a glob of lava in a inventive way.

The Journey Continues

It is this design philosophy that lead fans and critics to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games of all time. Now, players can get ready for another adventure in this esteemed franchise.
